She was born in Houston on July 16th, 1948 and raised in nearby Baytown. She later received her Master's from Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
She went back to college to follow her second dream after being a homemaker for 20 years. He was an avid ham radio operator, loved photography, traveling, and was a loving father and grandfather. Holmes moved to Carthage in 1983, from Tulsa, OK and was a member of Central Baptist Church. She married her high school sweetheart, Roger Bennett, while attending Lamar University, where she received a B. She taught elementary school in Portland, Texas for many years and was a talented writer, publishing a tour guide and many magazine articles.
For over 20 years she was very active with Fields of Harvest Church in Baytown, where she served in numerous ministries that included Secretary on the Board of Trustees, Prayer Intercession Team, Praise Team Singer, Co-leader of Marriage Walk, Circle of Love Ministries, Children's Ministries, and just recently donated her time as receptionist. She made over 10 missions trips to Brazil where she helped in several capacities that included building and planting new churches in various regions. Black of Baytown; a brother, Guy Black of Baytown; and grandparents, Mr and Mrs. A member of a well-known Baytown family, Melinger died early Thursday after a brief illness. His parents, Al and Helen Melinger, recently retired as the owners and operators of The Style Shoppe, a business founded many years ago by his grandparents, the late Harry and Sadye Blum. He also graduated summa cum laude from Denver's metropolitan college, where he earned his bachelor of science degree. Friday June 12, 1987, at Feldman Funeral Home in Denver. Melinger graduated summa cum laude from the University of Denver, earning a doctorate degree in psychology in 1983.
